Ineffably sublime

Thought for the day:

we need some more songs with phrases like "ineffably sublime" in . . . but not many more.

Any prizes for finding it?

Crown Him the Lord of years, the Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres, ineffably sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail! For Thou has died for me;
Thy praise and glory shall not fail throughout eternity.

or does using the search function in NetHymnal disqualify one?

Anonymous - a prize was on its way until I read your cheating methods! Shock horror!

That verse is one of my favourites of all time! I love the plosive alliteration of 'potentate of time'.

Maybe there are other hymns out there with 'ineffably sublime' in them . . . but it's so subliminal that we've not noticed?

What about this one?

Where does it come from?

Crown Him the Lord of years,
The Potentate of time,
Creator of the rolling spheres,
Ineffable sublime.
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
For Thou hast ransomed all
And not one life Thy grace will fail,
As realms before Thee fall.

Christian Blessings to you.

These words held a special meaning for one of our congregation when we sang them a couple of Sundays ago:

How shall we love thee, holy, hidden Being,
If we love not the world which thou hast made?
O, give us brother-love, for better seeing
Thy Word made flesh and in a manger laid …

Beautiful poetry, powerful words.
