God IS the Eschaton - Von Balthasar

“God is ‘the last thing’ for the creature.
Gained, God is heaven;
lost, [God is] hell;
testing, [God is] judgment;
purifying, [God is] purgatory.
God himself is that in which the finite dies and through which it rises again in God and to God. God is such that God turns himself to the world, namely, in his Son Jesus Christ, who is the manifestation of God and therefore also the sum of the ‘last things.’”

Hans Urs Von Balthasar (1905-1988)

Reminds me of JAT Robinson's "In the End, God ..."
The last three chapters of that book are really good -- only bettered by TEU :)
